Papperstulpanerna är nu installerade i sitt nya hem, den ostindiska tulpanvasen från 1700-talet som står på von Echstedtska gården här i Värmland. Ja, vasen är förstås jämnårig med huset den står i, och huset och tulpanerna kan beses av allmänheten. Gården tillhör Värmlands museum och är öppen på sommaren och jag tycker man bör åka dit och få sig en rejäl dos 1700-talsskönhet av det lite mer riviga slaget. Dovt åskmolnsblå salong med mahognymöbler och marmorerade dörrar vill i alla fall jag ha hemma nu (i alla rum, japp).
Känner mig så stolt och glad att tulpanerna nu är en del av utställningen på von Echstedtska tillsammans med alla fina möbler, textilier och porslin från 1700-talet!

The paper tulips are now installed in their new home, the outstandingly beautiful house "von Echstedtska gården", a museum open to the public here in Värmland. The east Indian tulip vase and the house are both mid 18th century and the interiors are just drop dead gorgeous, rococo of the best sort. I for one can't get enough of deep thundercloud blue walls with mahogany furniture and marbled doors.
I feel so honoured that my tulips are now a part of the exhibit there, with all the lovely furniture, textiles and china from the period.

I promised more tulip pictures and here they are! I managed to arrange a little photoshoot in our barn today which, it turns out, has the most gorgeous light and very chic peeling plaster walls which made the tulips look like real primadonnas in my humble opinion!

Tomorrow these and their fellow tulips (I have made seven all in all) will be delivered at their future home and I am so excited to see them in their vase!

I don't often take commissions for paper flowers, but when asked to make an arrangement of tulips for a real 18th century chinese tulip vase I said yes and double yes!

I went into this with a "how hard can it be" approach, and it turned out it could be quite hard but not impossible. After various experiments with different kinds of paper I settled for Gloria doublette for the petals and cartotecnica rossi 180g for leaves and other details. Then followed colouring experiments, and a lot of trials for the shape of pistil, stamens and petals.

I looked at 18th C paintings of tulips for inspiration, and as a little nod to Memento Mori I made a withered tulip as well which is the one being made in these photos. More pictures to come, I promise!
