The recording of our January meetup, "Back to the Basics: Intent-Driven API Design in C++," is now available: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uT_z06zwCB4

In this session, Fridtjof Sterna explores a first-principles approach to API design, moving beyond the syntax of parameter passing to focus on intent, ownership, and mutability.

Our thanks to Fridtjof Sterna for the excellent talk, and to 42 Vienna for hosting the event and supporting the local community.

#cppusergroupvienna kicks off 2026 at a new location. We are happy to be hosted by https://www.42vienna.com this time!

In a back-to-basics-style talk, Fridtjof Sterna will give us guidance on how to choose the right parameter types when designing APIs, looking at function interfaces as a contract between caller and callee.

New #cppusergroupvienna meetup summary and video release!

In October, we welcomed Marcell Juhász for a great talk about "Hacking and Securing C++". Using a very simple embedded system as a model, he presented various kinds of exploits, and gave recommendations on how to prevent them.

Hacking and Securing C++ – Marcell Juhasz – C++ Usergroup Vienna

On Nov 25, #cppusergroupvienna returns! We're looking back at the #meetingcpp conference, and then dive into template return argument deduction: After a short back-to-basics-style primer about how things work now, we look at proposal P3747. Can we shoot a hole in it? Do we find better alternatives?

Come and see!

What a week!
On Tuesday, #cppusergroupvienna featuring Marcell Juhász with "Hacking and Securing C++"
Excellent talk, if you missed it, I recommend getting a last minute ticket to #meetingcpp in November to watch it (or wait for the video, but where is the fun with that?)

On Wednesday, I gave my own talk "Monadic Operations in C++23" at the Brno C++ meetup, also in preparation for Berlin. Travel was quite the adventure, but the talk went well. And we got a surprise remote visit by Herb Suttter!
