Seit seiner Eröffnung 1893 verbindet der Kanal von Korinth den Saronischen Golf mit dem Golf von Korinth, durchschneidet den Isthmus und trennt den Peloponnes vom Festland. Er verkürzt Schifffahrtsrouten um rund 400 Kilometer und ermöglicht großen Schiffen die Passage zwischen Ägäis und Ionischem Meer. Über 6 Kilometer Länge und bis zu 84 Meter Tiefe wurde das harte Felsgestein in elfjähriger Bauzeit unter extrem gefährlichen Arbeitsbedingungen durchschnitten...
Hier also verabschiedete ich mich Mitte Februar vom Peloponnes und es geht weiter auf die nächsten Etappen meiner Reise.

Entlang der stillgelegten Eisenbahnlinie führt meine Wanderung bis an den Kanal von Korinth. Die Strecke, erbaut Ende des 19. Jhds, diente bis in die 1980er Jahre dem Transport und quert den Kanal auf einer hohen Brücke, an welcher meine Tour heute endet.
