Counts 14, 15 and 27 of the indictment to engage in “an overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy” would “interfere with the District Court’s ability” to apply justice to potentially falsified documents by “imposing a state sanction when a federal sanction is already in place.”

Six other counts were previously excised, leaving only 6 #felony charges pending against Eastman, including a #RICO charge, conspiracy to commit #forgery, two counts for conspiring to provide false statements, solicitation of violation of oath by public officer, and #conspiring to impersonate a public officer etc.

Judge tosses some counts in Georgia election case against Trump and others

The judge overseeing the Georgia election interference against Donald Trump and others has tossed out three counts in the indictment saying that they lie beyond the state’s jurisdiction. That includes two counts brought against the former president. At issue are two counts having to do with the filing of a document with the federal court in Atlanta that declared that Trump had won the state of Georgia and 16 Republicans who signed the document were the “duly elected and qualified electors” from the state. The third count charges Trump and lawyer John Eastman with filing false documents, saying they “knowingly and unlawfully” filed a a lawsuit with the federal court in Atlanta that included false statements about the 2020 election in Georgia.

The other crime, prosecutors say (they also presented evidence of other #crimes), was Trump’s 2016 violation of state #ElectionLaw that prohibited #conspiring to aid a #political campaign using “#UnlawfulMeans.”

In Iran, two journalists who first covered the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini last September have been sentenced to prison. Elaheh Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi were found guilty of collaborating with the U.S. government, conspiring against national security, and propaganda against the state. They could each serve over five years in prison. They’ve both been held in Tehran’s Evin Prison for over a year.
