I asked ChatGPT "What is the pinout of the Commodore 64 joystick port?"
"The Commodore 64 has two 9-pin joystick ports, labeled 'Game Port 1' and 'Game Port 2'".
Good so far!
"... located on the back of the computer."
Hmmm... that's not quite right. Those ports are on the side, not the back. That seems pretty harmless though, right?
"The pinout, or arrangement of the pins on the joystick port, is as follows:
1. Up
2. Down
3. Left
4. Right"
Ok, that's pretty impressive. All of those pins are correct (though it left out the paddle fire buttons).
However, after this it went downhill. Not a single one of its descriptions of pins 5-9 was correct.
The worst part is they all sound completely plausible. There *is* a ground, and there *is* a +5V line, and there *is* a fire/trigger line - just not on the pins it assigned them to!
So it's good at producing answers that resemble correctness, but are not necessarily actually correct.
