"One of the first-ever uses of aerial-dropped bombs was against the miners' army in West Virginia. The Italians had done it a few years earlier in Ethiopia."

I'm so fucking tired of people in Poland downplaying Russian invasion of #Ukraine and more importantly -- acting as if immigrants and war refugees are the worst people ever.

"But they are stealing our jobs" -- screams the man, farting as they go (this is not a joke)
And yet, you have a job, prick. And whose to blame for this? An immigrant? Or the guy who hires immigrants for the sole purpose of exploiting their desperate labour?

This is exactly how #ClassConflict shines through.

But then, they will say shit like "they did not help us in 1939!", an argument so fucking stupid I will not even comment on that.
And then they bring the big guns.

The Volhynia massacre. For them, an unforgivable act of senseless violence. For me? It's sad and cruel so many people had to experience and endure such horror. But as if the Oct. 7, the event in question wasn't in vacuum. Big part of my family died in Volhynia. They used to be Polish aristocrats treating Ukrainian serfs like shit. It's always the same story. The more you opress and humiliate, the more radical will the reaction be.

In 1938, minimum wage was 25¢/hr $520 per year.
The GDP in 1938 was $800b (in 1990 $s)
Inflation adjusted $520 would be $4,820 making the percentage of the GDP 0.0000006025% of the minimum wage. If that same percentage of the minimum wage was instituted for a $25.462trillion GDP the minimum wage would be $153,408.55 per year or $73/hr which wouldn't have been such a shock if the last 50 years the lion's share of the GDP hadn't been concentrated into the hands of the very few

Movies vs. Capitalism - Parasite (w/ Jessica Burbank) on Stitcher

On this week’s Movies vs. Capitalism, Rivka and Frank are joined by political commentator Jessica Burbank to discuss Bong Joon-Ho’s 2019 masterpiece Parasite.  In the midst of increasing wealth inequality and rising poverty across the planet, it’s no surprise that this film — a violent parable about class conflict — became a cultural phenomenon. The group digs into the themes of class relations, failed solidarity, and elitism that run through the film’s complicated social dynamics.  They also break down how the film uses “the smell” as a perfect metaphor for working class disdain, why being stinky in real life is actually a good thing, and how the film gave us one of our greatest modern memes.  For next week’s episode, the group will be discussing the series finale of Succession.  This podcast relies on listeners like you to keep the show going:  Go to MVCpod.com to become a supporter or leave us a tip.
