The song's is a fable during the Second Sino-Japanese War, about a female impersonator actor forced to perform "The Peach Blossom Fan" by invading soldiers. That play is in turn about the fall of the Ming dynasty through the filter of a doomed romance between a courtesan and scholar. Back to the Sino-Japanese War, the crossdressing actor traps the invading soldiers in the building, sacrificing himself while the theatre is set on fire to kill everyone in it.

Li Yugang, the performer of the actual song, is known for singing both male and female roles.
