ISO: 2nd Posting -- Long-shot request for help -- Russian-speaking child therapist near, Parkersburg, West Virginia
Hello All -- expanding the call and re-broadcasting one more time:
If you know child therapists *ANYWHERE in the USA who speak Russian*,
please let us know. Private message respond to
@Email2TootBot or @mreeder
Also -- trauma coaches.
These people might know a colleague who is licensed in West Virginia...
OR -- *I observe that West Virginia is part of PSYPACT -- so maybe they
could help that way?*
See below.
Thanks,

Hi Everyone:
I am writing on behalf of a Ukrainian colleague who returned to Lviv
Ukraine to open a psychotherapeutic extension to a medical program there.
She wrote to me asking for help locating a Russian-speaking child
therapist in Morristown, WV, which is in Wirt County (population 5,000),
near Parkersburg, West Virginia, in the United States. I have asked my
Ukrainian friends in West Virginia for help locating someone who speaks
Russian, now I’m asking you to see if we can locate a child therapist in
the Parkersburg, WV area who would be willing to work with a
Russian-speaking refugee child (almost certainly dealing with trauma).
Let’s try to think outside the box and consider other avenues of help,
e.g., cultural connections, faith community, sports coaching, equine
therapy, etc. which may be able to provide a sense of connection and
hope to this youngster in a very rural part of West Virginia. Resources
in Wirt County are sparse, and even internet connectivity may be a
challenge. It may take a team (e.g., someone familiar with
trauma-informed child therapy, and another willing person who speaks
Russian).
A couple of Ideas I had are things like:
1. Someone willing to videoconference (assuming there’s connectivity)
with the child in Russian.
2. Someone willing to telephone the child and speak Russian.
3. Someone willing to write the child in Russian.
4. Someone willing to connect with the child and consult with a
therapist to guide the conversations.
5. Someone able to meet in person with the child to provide continuity,
social connection, and cultural adjustment.
I have no details; I don’t know the child’s age; if there is a host
family; if the child is with a parent or parents; any other family
present; the nature of the concerns; the child’s country of origin (I’m
assuming Eastern Ukraine), or how long the child has been a refugee. I
don’t know if the child is in school or, if so, how the school in Wirt
County is trying to help meet the youngster’s needs (I can guess that
the school would be pretty stretched here).
If you have any ideas or contacts in your network who might be in a
position to help, please [PRIVATE MESSAGE THIS BOT
@Email2TootBot or
@mreeder ]...
Many thanks for considering this. I realize it’s a big request with a
lot of specifiers.
