One thing that is wonderful with a GNU Social shadow account is that you can find your hashtagged posts very easily.

My original #cerealization format overview thread:

I once tried to find this through fragments on mastosoc or something, but gave up.

@mnl Do you have a favorite JSON-datamodel-like binary serialization out of JSONB, BSON, BJSON, UBJSON, CBOR, MessagePack, etc?

Asking partly because it's hilarious that we as a community haven't decided, in fact we're so undecided that at least two of these have IETF RFCs, and partly because you might actually have a preference and offer some insight. 😃

@andrej

#cerealization

Self-describing (schema-less) binary structured data formats:

ION, CBOR, BSON, BJSON, UBJSON, bencode, Colfer, Flatbuffers, MsgPack, zebrapack, greenpack, Fast Infoset ...

#cerealization
Found an old (first public description, https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1014 , is older than the web) #cerealization format called XDR. Not self-describing. Latest RFC is https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4506 . Apparently it's used in e.g. NFS, ZFS, R and SpiderMonkey.

Interestingly, it has a representation for quadruple-precision floats.

@xj Ok, now I'm going to need a loong thread hidden in the forgotten dreams of #heldscalla under the #cerealization tag, but off the top of my head:

- or maybe CBOR
- or JSONB
- or BSON
- or MessagePack

Should have made that HPR ep.
