#TIL #cdrtools adopted a bad license way back when and because of it people tried to fork it but eventually lost interest in continuing said fork. These days there is finally a successor to cdrtools called #libisoburn.

Robert Clausecker "Student of Jörg Schilling" created the #schilytools project and repository at #Codeberg to continue work on this tool collection (best known for #cdda2wav, #cdrecord and #mkisofs, the #cdrtools).

Today I received the tragic news that Jörg Schilling, famous for #cdrtools, #star and other projects, has passed away. Regardless of all the flamewars we had over licensing in the past, Jörg was a giant to me. May he find peace. Thank you, Jörg, for all you did.
