SuperValu, Mr Price and Applegreen have each been served with fixed‑payment notices by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) after inspections revealed pricing breaches. Cedarglade Ltd, trading as SuperValu on Aston Quay in Dublin, received two notices for not displaying correct prices. Corajio Unlimited Company, operating as Mr Price, was issued six notices for failing to show unit prices on certain items in stores in Midleton, Co Cork and Killarney, Co Kerry. Petrogas Group Ltd, trading as Applegreen in Athlone, Co Westmeath, got one notice for not displaying the price of a product in its forecourt shop. Each notice carries a €300 fixed fine and relates to missing or incorrect price displays and the absence of unit‑pricing information.

The notices are part of 15 enforcement actions announced by the CCPC. In separate cases, three retailers entered legally binding undertakings after investigations into sales‑pricing practices during the 2023‑2024 winter sales. Rath‑Wood Home and Garden World Ltd (Rathwood) agreed to refund certain consumers, while Ofwal Ltd (Easons.com) and Shop Direct Ireland Ltd (Very) committed to comply with sales‑pricing legislation concerning how price reductions are shown on their websites. The regulator also issued compliance notices to two retailers over misleading consumer‑rights information: Phoenix Mobile and Communications Ltd (Munster Tech Centre) received two notices about statutory cancellation rights, and Hot Fox Ltd (CocoBoutique) received one for similar issues. A compliance notice requires the trader to halt the prohibited practice and meet the legal requirement by a set deadline, with failure potentially leading to prosecution.

“Consumers have very strong rights and the CCPC is here to uphold them,” said Brian McHugh, chairperson of the Commission. He noted that the latest actions stem from routine in‑store and online inspections, ongoing investigations, and complaints received on the CCPC helpline. The authority is closely monitoring traders’ adherence to the binding commitments published today, warning that any breach will trigger further enforcement measures. This proactive stance aims to ensure transparent pricing and protect consumer rights across supermarkets, petrol stations and other retail outlets.
