Cloud-to-Cloud (CC) lightning is that it's often referred to as "heat lightning", however, the term is a bit of a misnomer. The lightning itself has nothing to do with heat; it's simply regular lightning that occurs in the upper parts of clouds or between clouds and doesn't strike the ground.
