In the centuries after the Romans left Britain in C5, huge numbers of Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Frisians and others migrated from northern Europe, gradually replacing the native Britons in the southern and eastern regions. The country became known as the land of the Angles and they became Christianised. Their language gradually evolved from Germanic languages into English. A Saxon era C10/C11 church survives at Breamore in Hampshire where Saxon script is visible, which in translation to English reads "Here is manifest the word to thee"

The Elizabethan manor house and bell tower, named Breamore House, built 1583. Its exterior is well preserved, almost unchanged. It overlooks the valley of the Hampshire Avon river. The surrounding estate of circa 125 hectares includes formal gardens, parkland , agricultural land and woodland. There are several prehistoric antiquities on or near the estate, including tumuli, a turf maze (labyrinth), a long barrow etc. Breamore, Hampshire, England. August 2025.
