I spent the summer of 1985 working in the Big Thicket in East Texas. We spent a lot of that summer talking about the mythical ivory-billed woodpecker, listening for one, checking out old dead trees for evidence, and wondering whether it was really extinct. That was 38 years ago!
I'm as hopeful as anyone, but I'm also doubtful. This article is interesting for sure:
