#auIGF Day 1 posed some interesting questions:
How do we make the internet trustworthy (without changing the existing power structures and big tech domination) (of course)?
How do we make sure web technology can exploit all people, not just people who live in cities or have money? (sorry I mean, make good use of technology to keep up with the transition away from existing systems that we decided we don't like anymore)
What do we do about the fact that the internet is dominated by 4 main companies? (we're not sure, waiting for someone else to fix it, but maybe AI will fix it or make it worse.)
It's easy to sit with my friends and laugh, get anxious and go up and shout out grass roots action and community power, but it's really scary when First Nations People stand up and ask in earnest:
"How will your program represent the interests of my community without being another blind-sided white 'we know what's best for you' tour around the country?:
and the presenters say:
"But everyone needs digital literacy skills! Using excel, AI and email are the defining features of a successful life!"
Hopeful for tomorrow's conversations shaking up the pot a bit more!
