It seems I have come to the (five page long) paragraph which summarizes the aim of this expansive work.
And each time I find some deeper meaning in Proust I can feel John Ashbery having read and poeticized the same idea.
Ashbery truly was a Proust fanboy.

And maybe these passages even confer hope on this unproductive poet.

And from the same interview:
https://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/10/books/review/john-ashbery-by-the-book.html?ref=books

"If you had to name one book that made you who you are today, what would it be?"

-Again, Proust’s “À la Recherche du Temps Perdu,” for better or worse. You finish it feeling sadder and wiser, so if you’re O.K. with the sadder part, you should take it on.

John Ashbery: By the Book

To write and to publish is the noblest, most delicate work a man can do, for it involves others: To act on another’s mind, what a task, what a responsibility before the truth and before oneself!

Por aquí también me apetece compartir los versos que más he releído en el último año y medio. Un fragmento de Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror, de Ashbery:
