The human tear film is composed of three distinct layers; the outermost Lipid (Oily) Layer produced by the meibomian glands, the middle Aqueous (Watery) Layer produced by the lacrimal glands, and the innermost Mucin Layer produced by the goblet cells in the conjunctiva.
