Would you mind if I branched off this discussion with a related question?

We just ran into a question at work where (it seems to me) AP Style conflicts with basic readability & accessibility.

The specific instance is whether or not to spell out the month in paragraphical text.

Does anybody have pointers to any work that's been done lining up Accessibility with style books?

"Upfront" was one word in AP Style, based on the first listing for the adjective and adverb in Webster's New World Dictionary. But AP Stylebook switched to @merriamwebster.bsky.social , which hyphenates the adjective (an up-front payment) and leaves open the adverb (we paid up front). #APStyle

You can, too!

How Long Must We Say 'Formerly Known as Twitter'?

After Elon Musk renamed his social media platform 'X," the Associated Press Stylebook advised we explain it was 'formerly known as Twitter.'

Just noticed why the #APstyle is pants-on-head retarded. As if it wasn't already because there's no #serialcomma

It's "email" per #AP but then there's "e-book", "e-book reader", and "e-reader".

Today is the one-year anniversary of this tweet, and I think it's too good to leave on Xitter.
