By the way, this only happens when I try lift my heel and put the weight on my tippy toes. When my foot is flat on the floor it's already fine.

Today I walked to our local Tesco supermarket, did a minor shop and walked back with a bag of groceries. I found that the crutch I took with me has now become more of a hindrance than a help and I carried it rather than used it a lot of the time. I think it's time to ditch the crutch. Happy days. 😁

#AnkleFusion

Me: puts weight on my toes.

Body: "ZOMG ANKLE WILL SNAP"

Me: don't be fucking stupid. Ankle is a solid block of bone now. Ignores body screaming.

Body: (sheepishly) oh okay you're right it's not actually that bad. It's just muscles that haven't been used and that have atrophied protesting.

Me: see? We just need to train them up.

Body: ok.

(Next few steps are fine. I sit down. I get back up a bit later. Body screams again)

But every time the screams are a little less loud.

11 weeks and 4 days after #AnkleFusion

The cast came off last Thursday
My foot was a bit tender for a couple of days. Ankle was fine, but all the other little joints in the foot were protesting a bit after having been very restricted for so long. That had eased up by yesterday.

Today I got into the driver's seat and drove to our local supermarket and went shopping.

Things are most definitely on the mend.

I get out of bed. As I have done for years now, I gingerly put down my right foot and slowly allow it to take more and more of my weight as I wait for the usual twinges of pain while my poor, fucked up ankle slowly settles into.....

Wait. WAIT a sec.

I'm still in a cast. Will be for another few weeks, but I had an #AnkleFusion now 9 1/2 weeks ago.

I put my weight on the ankle. No pain.

I bet it will take me some time to unlearn that "getting out of bed" ritual.

Too sexy for my ... shoe?

#AnkleFusion #Ankle #AnkleSurgery .... sadly an #AnkleReplacement was not possible.

#MedicalDevices #Medical has anyone here ever used a "hands free knee crutch"? #crutches - how did you find it? I'm looking at having my #ankle fused #anklefusion - and I am thinking about options for mobility during recovery.

I have had to have a few ankle fusions since a motorbike accident in 2004. My most recent fusion was in 2019 and involved two screws to attach the calcaneous heel bone to the talar bone above it.
The screws are each 7 mm diameter and about 70 mm long and I’ve had to have them removed because they were pushing through the flesh at the back of my heel making it hard to walk.
Here is the photograph of the x-ray. The plates and screws above are from previous fusions and are not causing any problems at the moment.

This is the results of a midlife crisis involving a Kawasaki GTR 1000 touring bike.
