A big insurer backed off its plan to pay less for anesthesia. That’s bad.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield tried to impose claim limits on anesthesia. Following the killing of UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson, a populist uproar forced Anthem to reverse that policy. But the true winners of this fight were millionaire doctors, not patients.

IN OTHER NEWS...

came out of surgery a few hours ago. had a moment in the surgery room when i looked around and all the doctors and nurses were women.

am 57 years old and it was the first time in my life i looked around and it was all women, of all ethnicities and races, attending to my health.

@KrisBallard I used to get the gas… until my body stopped taking it at a “desirable” level. (I guess they maybe had to give me more gas than oxygen and they didn’t like that? Maybe someone from #dentists #dentistry #anesthesiologists #anesthesiology #oralsurgeon #oralsurgery can chime in)

So then they gave me Valium instead… which worked for a bit until it didn’t. And my dentist wasn’t comfortable giving me both gas and Valium.

Then I was supposed to go get a deep cleaning, and my appointment changed last minute to a normal cleaning with a different dentist than the one I’d been seeing for almost 20 years. I tried really hard to make it through the appointment, but I ended up saying to the dentist I was unfamiliar with, “with all due respect…. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck you.”

Absolutely my problem and my fault, I just hadn’t realized my dental anxiety had gotten that bad. My regular dentist at that practice had always found a way to make it work for me, so I really respect her for calling me in and saying, “I do not have the machinery/mechanisms here to provide you with what you need at this point.”
She also absolutely could’ve left it at that and had me find someone else myself… but she’d done some research for me and found full sedation dentists that were covered by the insurance I had (at the time [2019]) and I will always respect the hell out of her for that.

Sorry for the novel 🥲
