Anaximenes

Born circa 585 BCE, Anaximenes was a Milesian philosopher who considered the reality of some fundamental material from which the universe was made. He identified air, since this gives life to the entire cosmos. Anaximenes was the first to employ observable evidence to support his ideas and recognised air as that which when condensed becomes mist, then rain, then eventually rock, thus the creation of earth.
