So I've just watched "FourCorners" on ABC iView (Australia) the episode on "The AI Race"
https://iview.abc.net.au/video/NC2603H017S00

Had to be the most concerning thing I've watched in recent years. And i mean concerning beyond words.

It wasnt enough that Morrison got into bed with Trump over AUKUS.

Albo - without the sage voice of Ed Husic - has got into bed with Trump over contacts WITH ZERO GUARDRAILS over AI Data Centres. Signed and being delivered as we speak in Sydney.

Say what you like about Husic, at least he sees the billions of red flashing danger lights.

At least he sees the sheer volume of energy AI Data Centres will consume - notably renewable energy that ppl-just-like-me are producing for the national grid from our rooves and batteries (huh no wonder the govt is giving rebates...)

At least Husic sees the billions Albo is prepared to hand over to Trump for this American Silicon Valley technology to be brought here with ZERO regulation.

And we aren't talking AI for Google maps or how to recognise birdsong in the Daintree Forests.
We're talking AI SO COMPLEX that it can improve itself. AI that can create a next generation that can replace its AI predecessors and cannot be shut off. AI that can jump in nano seconds, from data centre to data centre around the world, US to Aus to Japan to Switzerland, with nobody able to pull the plug.

At least Husic sees that we are (again) being smoozed by swanky tech bros visiting Canberra (invites only forums) to enter deals over Data Centres that Americans don't want in their communities. They're too noisy, too polluting, too expensive and too energy guzzling even for America.

And Albo is agreeing to it here bc nobody wants to say no to Trump and the Tech Bros.

And apart Husic's replacement at Dept of Industry & Science, Tim Ayers, absolutely nobody in the hands-on areas of AI development is happy. They are all calling for slow down - NOW, international regulation and collaboration to stop one winner taking us all to the brink.

Anyway.. watch it.. comments below.

Please tell me it its all gonna be ok.

And tell me who's got the balls and intelligence to deal with this bc Hanson and Joyce haven't.

Four Corners: S2026 The AI Race

Artificial intelligence is already changing how we live and work, while being sold as the technology that could cure disease, transform productivity and solve some of the world's biggest problems. Steve Cannane investigates the race to build ever more powerful AI systems and asks whether it is moving faster than governments and communities can keep up with.
