Got annoyed at #AcrobatReader now having an "AI Assistent" button together with suggestions when entering search queries and tried to find a way to disable it. Well, at least on Windows it's possible using a registry change: in the following key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\FeatureLockDown\ (at least on my system it already existed) add a new DWord value bEnableGentech with value 0 and restart the reader.
Don't know if there is a similar way for other platforms... 😔

...damnit, #AcrobatReader is _such_ a piece of crap nowadays.

It's been declining for years, constantly triggering "out of memory" errors when I opened up multiple PDFs at the same time. But I've reached my limit when it crashed multiple times when I tried to search a very simple three-page PDF - while displaying an " #AI Assistant" bar that I didn't ask for and cannot seem to switch off.

I've now installed SumatraPDF . #Adobe is not worth the aggravation.

- saisir la différence entre appareil, système (OS) et application
- confirmer qu'on ne sait pas trop ce qu'#AcrobatReader fait avec son fichier
- envisager qu'il y a des alternatives
- l'intérêt qu'un logiciel privateur a et qu'un #logiciellibre n'a pas, de collecter ses données
- installer #fdroid sur son #android puis installer #mupdf

#Ssoftware is shit, and getting shitter. It takes a lot for me to be surprised, amused, or curious about the increasingly ridiculous ways in which it goes wrong. But there is one mystery I can't wrap my head around:

Why does the save location in #AcrobatReader always default to "C:\Windows\System32", a folder in which (I hope) it doesn't have the elevated permissions required to save anything?
