“Bodies in Action: Gesture and the Interruption of Violence” May 15—17, 2025 (Vienna)The conference focuses on gesture in two ways. First, we seek to address gestures’ disruptive potential that lies in their ability to perform non-identical repetitions that can interrupt patterns of violence. Second, we attend to gestures’ opposite effects: the stabilization of violence and oppressive norms they introduce and perpetuate through repetitive patterns.
