Madame Mao commissioned “The Yellow River Piano Concerto” to be composed as a reimagining of Xinghai’s Cantata. Later, “The Yellow River Piano Concerto” was also banned from being performed in China due to The Cultural Revolution ending which moved its presence to Western stages for Western audiences. By the late 1980s it reemerged on Chinese stages and from there it garnered the prestige it has today.
