I described the LLM's response as an answer-shaped object.

To put my point more succinctly: the specific errors it made aren't very important. The important part is that the response contained many specific, falsifiable statements, and literally every single one I checked was wrong.

And every one of them was easily answered correctly from articles and such on the web.

If you think "LLMs are no good for finished theses or whatever, but you can use them to do the first round of research and go from there", you are, in my humble but correct opinion, barking up the wrong tree.
