@thurrott I'd like to comment on your saying the Microsoft account requirement affects nobody...:

Imagine you get a new PC for work at a small company, no IT department, it's on you to make it through the setup wizard.l by yourself.
So you log in with your personal Microsoft account on your work PC. And now your employer has access to your personal files, just because Microsoft tricked you into doing the wrong thing.
