Did you know? Whitebark pine is an “obligate mutualist” of the Clark’s nutcracker. That means that the pine needs the nutcracker for its survival. The nutcracker’s specialized beak can extract the seeds, and seeds that aren't eaten are free to grow! The Clark’s nutcracker can cache up to 100,000 seeds in a year, which feeds them and their young through the winter🌲Join us on August 24 to learn more: https://albertawilderness.ca/product/adventure-for-wilderness-whitebark-watch-ecology-conservation-and-action/
Wild Alberta Fact # 21/60
Have you noticed the profusion of red berries on some of the bushes in our mountains and foothills? The buffaloberry crop is a great one this year, and that is great news for our bears! Carry bear spray, make noise, and be extra vigilant on the trails🐻
Have you seen this native butterfly while out exploring Alberta’s alpine meadows? This Sunday you can try to spot one as we adventure through their preferred habitat with plant ecologist Isaac Peetoom Heida. 🦋 Register: https://albertawilderness.ca/product/adventure-for-wilderness-jumpingpound/
