Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has told U.S. President Donald Trump that he stands by his comments made at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Carney plans to diversify Canada’s trade away from the U.S. with a dozen new deals. On Tuesday, Carney rejected U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s claim that he walked back his remarks. Trump recently threatened a 100% tariff on Canadian goods if Canada pursued a trade deal with Beijing. Carney explained to Trump that Canada is making new trade arrangements across four continents. Carney aims to double Canada’s non-U.S. exports in the next decade.
