Forth has come a long way since I experimented with it (8-bit, 6809, Leo Brodie hadn't published his second book).
While grappling with stack juggling (it's not hard, I'm just out of practice) I discovered that Forth now has local variables.
_Tres Cool_ as a coworker used to say.
My oversimplified view of Forth locals is that they are syntactic sugar to hide the juggling. But as they have input, working, and output groupings I am sure there's more to it. I will learn in time.
Skimming Reddit and SO revealed strong and conflicting views on their use.
I've decided not to use them at present as I prep for Advent of Code. I appreciate their value but I want to get comfortable with keeping track of the stack.

Today’s mini-project: match Atlas of Type entries to @fontstand URLs. Dice-Sørensen coefficient (as a measure of string similarity) helped match 1495 of 2150 pages before words like “sans” vs. “serif” get conflated. Switching to Elbow Grease from here on. #WaxOnWaxOff
Why so much hair removal? Does this trace back to feeling threatened by another caveman? I'm tired and frankly sticky from trying conform to these Paleo threat based hairless skin standards! Next summer full caveman!!!!
