A few days ago when I was posting about Lancia, someone mentioned Noddy. The Enid Blyton Noddy car was actually one of these, a Fiat Vignale Gamine, produced in the late 1960s. This particular one was at the 2024 NEC Classic Motor show.

After yesterday’s Lancia Flavia Vignale Convertible, a comparison with its sisters, the Flavia Coupé from Pininfarina (the green car, seen at the Bremen Classic Motor Show in 2014) and the rather boxy but nevertheless handsome, saloon, here in silver in its later Series II form at Automotoretro Turin in 2016. The Series I saloon had a similar nose to the Coupé and the Convertible (reposted here). Corrected. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar #Lancia #Vignale #Pininfarina
Next up in the pre-Ford Vignale story - the beautiful Lancia Flavia Vignale Convertible. Launched at the 1962 Salone dell'Automobile di Torino but seen here in the more prosaic setting of the Bremen Classic Motor Show in 2016. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, built by Vignale. Before and after base car comparisons tomorrow. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar #Lancia #Vignale #Michelotti
As promised, a couple of photos of the standard Fiat 1300, which served as the basis for the Fiat 1300S Vignale Coupé featured yesterday (also reposted for the purposes of comparison). Once again, the extent of the transformation wrought by Vignale is remarkable. The 1300, seen here at Automotoretro Turin in 2016, was launched in 1961 and widely licensed for production around the world. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar #Fiat #Vignale
Today, another example of pre-Ford Vignale loveliness - the beautiful 1960s Fiat 1300S Vignale Coupé, seen here at Retromobile in Paris in 2018. This was based on the Fiat 1300. I’ll post a couple of pictures of that tomorrow for comparison purposes. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar #Fiat #Vignale
As I mentioned yesterday, Vignale is now mainly a badge for poshed up Fords. But once Carrozzeria Alfredo Vignale was a proud independent design house that came up with stuff like this, the 1960 Fiat 750 Vignale Coupé, which despite its name was based on the Fiat 600. More lovely pre-Ford Vignale models, and comparisons with the cars on which they were based, over the next few days. Seen at Techno Classica Essen in 2014. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar #Vignale #Fiat
I explained the other day how Ford took over the Italian design house Carrozzeria Ghia, and ended up using the Ghia badge to identify the best-equipped versions of its mainstream cars. It later used the name of another Italian design firm, Vignale, which it had acquired in 1973, in the same way. This one-off Mondeo Vignale concept shown at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show tested the waters. A few pre-Ford Vignale cars to follow. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar #Ford #Vignale
