A selection of between three and thirty-two imperfect-helixes are mapped out from polar co-ordinates according to three separate constants: one too large, one too small and one… just right. The results are glitchy and unpredictable, akin to taking a leaky marker pen to the old-fashioned Spirograph toy and pressing too hard.

I was initially attracted to this artist work because of the beauty present in each piece. There seems to be to attention paid to the many different characteristics that can combine to create something at once visually interesting and satisfying to contemplate. This approach has been brought into our Y2 remix. The original Revolutionary Happiness colours have been retained but off-set against darker colours that lead all the way into black, which enhances both. There are glitches, or is that dots?, that suggest data, a grid like formation. From left to right this seems to disintegrate into the random organic shapes of the original. The overall effect is of a mathematical, data driven process that integrates perfectly with an organic intuitive whole. In parts prismatic, in others kaleidoscopic there is a lot to enjoy but cleverly, the piece never becomes overwhelming due to a really cool sense of balance and restraint that arises out of an experimental and inclusive work practice. “I've been working a lot with scanning fabrics and textures with different light sources and angles and then having the images respond to the frequencies of whatever soundscapes I'm improvising with. I won't even end up using the music with it for the end result sometimes. Some surprising things or happy accidents occur as a result.” Definitely, very happy. Thanks so much to Sx-zr04 for getting involved and adding something so wonderful to our project!
