KO4FZGI have 2120 #ft8 which is cool and all but. VarAC is so freaking cool, I've made like 10 contacts but they were real conversations that sometimes went on for an hour.
Jeremy_N1ZZZThere is a new iteration of #VARAC that I played with today. There is a new BBS feature and I added a folder with some #ASCII art and a short introduction. I was able to download a few messages from other drop boxes. Not as interconnected as #packet BBS's of yore, but a nice feature that dovetails in with the ARQ modes. Working at 500+ bps didn't hurt the experience either. #amateurradio
David Johnson K7DMJIt's pretty cool that, with this setup and a length of wire hanging out my upstairs window, I can chat with people all over Europe. No internet, no mobile phone.

David - F4LTV... A neat script which installs #winehq, #winlink and the vara modems ! The project is called #Winelink and is available on github.
This works great ! Only some final tweaking is needed to configure com ports and sound card.
#VarAC is damn easy to install as a next steps.
As my other #EmCom software is #FLDigi, I now have my full setup up and running on Linux 👍
Luke MacNeilThis is VarAC, a digital mode of communication over HAM radio that uses a software modem to decode audio signals over HF Radio. It reminds me of the old days of IRC and BBSes and it ticks all of my nerdy boxes. It's very high tech and somehow also very primitive.
I can have an ascii chat with someone with a radio and a piece of wire strung up as an antenna and reach all over the world. It fascinates me.
Teknikal_DomainAs of today, my laptop is now 2/3 complete, I've put the windows portion (TAZOpticon) on and... Holy shit that's a lot of programs to install. At least like, #YAAC, #VarAC, and one other I'm probably forgetting will just immediately bind to the GPS COM port and get position updates, so that's cool.
I uh, get to reformat my backup target as exFAT though, I'm NOT using #WSL2 JUST to get local machine backups. I might use WSL2 to try OP25 though.... But yeah. I doubt Borg will like exFAT as its repository FS (no journaling), but it's compatible. (I'll explain the nuance of windows being broken, later)
