VA eliminated 40,581 positions in 2025.
Severe shortages jumped 50%.
All 139 facilities affected.
Lost:
→ 3,002 nurses (79% facilities report nurse shortages)
→ 1,068 doctors (94% report physician shortages)
→ 1,905 claims examiners
Real impacts: 208-day mental health waits, radiology delays, patients redirected 60+ miles.

A new bill introduced in Congress (HR 214) would allow veterans with service-connected disabilities and their dependents access to the Tricare health insurance/network - the same used by active duty military & retirees. This would give vets a real choice when it comes to their healthcare. Currently, vets use the VA and dependents have nothing.
