Forgot my wife got me this notebook during our visit to the National #Ainu Museum in #Upopoy. Its design is based on a embroidery on a mantari (waist apron) found in the museum. It's believed mantari is derived from the Japanese word for apron, 前垂れ (maedare).

If this isn't the perfect place to jot down my thoughts on aynu itak, I don't know what is.

Lake Poroto, Shiraoi, with Mt. Tarumae way back there, overlooking.

If you're ever in #Hokkaido, #Japan, make sure to visit the new National #Ainu Museum #Upopoy in Shiraoi! It's easy to get lost there for a whole day to learn, reminisce, experience, and change perspective. If you haven't heard about it's history before, Japan's northernmost island will not feel the same again.

See their website here:

There are also many other places where it's possible to learn about Ainu culture and history - be sure to pay a visit!
