THE FIRST DEGREE (1923) seems to me a nice example of a typical Universal programmer of the day: no major stars but an entertaining story, told compactly, with a few creative touches along the way. Less than enamored with the TCM presentation: projected far too slowly, with a “modern” score that felt like it was fighting the film. Glad it’s back in circulation though. #silentfilm #oldhollywood #universalfilms
