At some point, someone will say ‘oh it is impossible to codify the rules to eliminate rooting of the system’.
That is utter bullshit.
Parliament manages to codify the travel restrictions and gifting requirements that apply to all public servants. If any public servant tried to claim the sorts of crap the politicians claim they would be charged under the Public Service Act and then sacked.
You can easily codify what politicians should be eligible to claim (the rules) and apply those rules very easily.
It is just that politicians think they are better than us and should be able to claim more so they don’t have to use their extremely over stuffed pay packets to do peripheral stuff related to being a politician.
