Made it to Newark!! Finally!!

Just 10 minutes after the state of emergency was declared.

But we’re here! Now to get our bags and go home and see our bunnies!!

Holy carp that was an ordeal… flight leaving Sydney was delayed leaving due to traffic and only 1 runway operating… so we arrived with only about 25 minutes to get to our final connecting flight home. But of course it’s not that simple… they have immigration and customs for US departing flights here in Vancouver, plus an extra security screening, all of which slowed us down… we ended up sprinting through the terminal and just barely made it as they made the final boarding call. #TravelNightmare

After a good night’s rest, we’re back at the airport for what will hopefully be the uneventful finish to this messed-up trip. SYD ✈️ YVR ✈️ EWR

Well, we made it to Sydney (an hour late), so that’s… something.

Now to get our bags, see what hotel they stuffed us in, and spend the night before tomorrow’s hopefully uneventful return to North America and on to home (and the bunnies). #TravelNightmare

So that original flight we would’ve been on if we hadn’t been delayed getting out of Adelaide? The one we’ve been watching out of curiosity because it was delayed?

It was just canceled.

So we would’ve been rerouted regardless.

Now looks like we might be going home tomorrow, detouring first to Sydney, then staying overnight before connecting via Vancouver back to Newark… #TravelNightmare
Good news is that we’ve landed in Melbourne and have been rebooked on flights to get us home. Bad news is that we have 10 hours to kill here and we’re ending with a red-eye back to Newark landing at 5am, so we are going to be completely beat when we get home… and staying awake (and working) is going to be a hell of a challenge… #TravelNightmare

The government is days away from a Nov. 18 shutdown, which could force Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees and federal air traffic controllers to work without pay just as the busy Thanksgiving travel season begins. AAA, which is set to release its 2023 Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Forecast on Monday, estimated 4.5 million Americans would fly to…
