So @sotolf reminded me of something I kind of love. The Japanese "30-hour system". Used in nightlife, broadcasting, and transport, the time extends the day past midnight to keep late-night events grouped with the same calendar day. So a club open from 11PM to 1AM might list its hours as 23:00–25:00.

We should all adopt this!

Sadly Wikipedia does not have a detailed page on this system in English but here is a little longer explanation:

@GroupNebula563 its as good a theory as any and I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😉

I wrote 3 other long threads about time over the last couple of days, if you didn't catch them already, look at #TimeTrivia

@meohw Thank you for this delightful comment! 🙇

I actually wrote a few threads along these lines of late. For example, clocks and the use of IIII instead of IV, when and why men swapped pocket watches for wrist watches, or why all watch adverts show the time as 10:10 or there about.

If you want to see the others, look at my profile or perhaps the hashtag #TimeTrivia

@da5nsy Thanks for the nice comment!!! You might like some of my other recent posts about #TimeTrivia
Well, shit. Whenever I write up a little #TimeTrivia on my peronal account @ruari on my self hosted instance slows to a fucking crawl because of the boosts and likes. It is now unusable so if I don't reply to you there for a while, you now know why.

How about more time trivia then. So what is the deal with 12 hour clocks if we have 24 hours in a day? Furthermore, why 24 hours? And if they are 24 hours in a day, why are there 60 minutes and 60 seconds? This seems illogical, right? Maybe we should decimalize it, like we did with the metric system!

Here is yet another fun bit of watch trivia. Before World War I, wrist watches were considered a bit too dainty for men. They were considered more of a ladies accessory, often referred to as wristlets. Men typically carried pocket watches, which were seen as more masculine and refined.

Since you all seemed to like the Roman numeral thing, perhaps you would like some more watch trivia in the form of a 'magic trick'?

Go to your search engine of choice and do an image search for: wrist watch.

Every [well… almost every!] analogue dial watch displayed back to you in the results will show the same time as my watch shows right now, as I write this†. 🧙🪄

† I am based in the CEST (Central European Summer Time) [UTC +2] time zone.

Ok a little pet peeve about Roman numerals on watches and clocks.

I regularly read "smart" comments on watch related Reddit threads and watch reviews that state that dials on some watches are misprinting the 4 as IIII, rather than IV. Maybe this is some long running joke but in case it is not, let me point out that the people saying this are actually the ones who are wrong. The use of IIII is intentional.
