The thing about the Time Meddler is it’s nearly impossible to see it with the surprise as it would have been on broadcast. Elizabeth Sandifer (Tardis Eruditorum) argues the story should be called The Saxons or at least The Watcher (first episode title).

While it’s a trope now, before this point historicals didn’t have sci-fi elements in them. Finding another time traveller was a true shock!

As funny as the ending is I can't help but feel sorry for the Monk. I don't think he was being malicious and I personally sympathise with his plan to change history (although maybe not the nuclear weapons bit). The Doctor was way too harsh here #DoctorWho #TimeMeddler 167

I said in the last episode that there was something very 60's about the Monk and then we get this scene where he describes the Doctors TARDIS as a "modern police box" very odd choices #DoctorWho #TimeMeddler

My favourite cliffhanger so far... a TARDIS! must have been brilliant for the audience at the time. There was a lot of going around in circles in this episode but the interactions between the Doctor and the Monk and Steven and Vicki keep it interesting #DoctorWho #TimeMeddler

We also get one of the least appropriate scenes in a children's show. The sexual assault of Edith would never be in an episode of the show today and I'm convinced by the argument it was only included here because Hartnell was on holiday for the week #DoctorWho #TimeMeddler

Vicki also comes across really well here. With Steven she can have some fun and at points actually boss him around as she is the experienced traveller. As much as I've loved Vicki to this point when Ian and Barbara were around they almost infantilized her #DoctorWho #TimeMeddler

I am really liking Steven here. He fulfils the action hero role but in a very different way to Ian. His interactions with the villagers are completely different and I'm pleased they didn't just make him Ian 2.0. #DoctorWho #TimeMeddler 161

This episode is really missing Barbara. She would have loved to have visited this period and without her the Doctor is left explaining the plot to himself. Its also a shame she didn't get to learn that you can actually change history #DoctorWho #TimeMeddler
