Kind of blown away by #TheRoadToWiganPier.

The book follows Orwell as he navigates around the world of mid-1930's British mining. Those that work in the mines, the job itself and the associated living standards of the miners, and the wider working class.

What strikes me most is that, even though we've no doubt improved things with regards to pensions and welfare, there's so much that he talks about that *still* holds true to this day; nearly 100 years later.

Guess this is what I'm reading before I jump back into #TheLordOfTheRings in a week or two.

I've never read #TheRoadToWiganPier before, but it's been on my to-do for literal years.

Watch "#CarolBurnett Show - the Family - the Restaurant" on YouTube https://youtu.be/hmGRRujzdXY This is #TenneseeWilliams tragic mingled with the comedy, and the despairing, hurt look of #EuniceHiggins at the end, like the woman #GeorgeOrwell saw in #TheRoadtoWiganPier
unplugging a sewage pipe, knowing she will never get out of her #social #caste. I can relate given years of beating my head bloody against #corporate and #academic ceilings.
