"On that train all graphite and glitter..."
Oh, Donald Fagen!
So, wrong, so wrong!
(Nice song, though.)
"I.G.Y." from 'The Nightfly', from 1982.
A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when their work is done
We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

On this day in 1982, Donald Fagen’s debut solo album The Nightfly was released. I got up to # 11 on the US charts.
I feel that, at the time of its release (1982), this song (and album) was the ultimate in Donald Fagen/Steely Dan sarcasm. Somehow, I think sardonic is the better word, except that's an adjective rather than a noun.
I.G.Y. stands for "International Geophysical Year" which was some special designation that fell upon the year 1957. Who decided that, IDK, best to check wikipedia if you're curious.
The United States felt confident as to their role in the burgeoning "space race" at that time. Very optimistic times, all in all. Anyway...
Going to try to work a little bit on a project, while streaming some #jazz. There's a station out of Toronto, Jazz FM 91, that I really like, and tonight they have a program on called The Nightfly (after the Donald Fagen album). The host plays a mix of music from around the jazz spectrum. You can stream it at http://jazz.fm, but here's a direct URL for the stream (I think I had to dig around to find it):

There's a lot of ways to consume music whenever you want, but it's neat to hear a live list someone curated.
