Black people have always played an active role in shaping German society and politics. Anton Wilhelm Amo, a Black philosopher and lawyer, was already active in the city council of Berlin in the 18th century. The Cameroonian colonial migrant Martin Dibobe came to the German Empire at the end of the 19th century and joined the League for Human Rights. He also campaigned for equality for Black people with the "Dibobe petition" named after him. Co-signer Joseph Bilé was a member of the African Aid Association founded in 1918 by Alfred Bell and Mpunda Akwa until it was dissolved in 1924 and Bilé co-founded the League for the Defense of the Negro Race in 1929, an offshoot of the Communist International. The list of Black political representation in Germany is long and extends to reunified Germany of the 21st century. But what do the rights of Black people look like in Germany today? Where are the boundaries between politics and activism? And where does their future lie? Max Kade Visiting Professor Dr. Natasha A.
