Lies. Money. Racism. Distorted religion. All of the worst that we see in today’s Trump regime was present in spades in Nashville in 1920. But the suffragists didn’t give up.
God bless you, Rev. Barber!
#19ThAmendment #TrustWomen
August 18, 1920 - Women throughout the U.S. won the right to vote when the Tennessee legislature approved the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution (the last of 36 states then required to approve it). An amendment for universal suffrage was first introduced in Congress in 1878, and Wyoming had granted suffrage in state law by 1890.
This amendment to enfranchise all American women had been introduced annually for 41 years without passage; it had gotten two-thirds of both houses of Congress to approve it just the year before.
“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”
In the Tennessee House, 24-year-old Representative Harry Burn surprised observers by casting the deciding vote for ratification. At the time of his vote, Burns had in his pocket a letter he had received from his mother urging him, "Don't forget to be a good boy" and "vote for suffrage."
@ProPublica Take politicians out of the equation—that would be a lot better for women AND their doctors.
God Bless the Women
Our US Supreme Court and Republican Policies are murdering women.
It is as simple and straighforward as that. Women are dying from untreated miscarriages, untreated ectopic pregnancies, and a host of other untreated health issures related to pregnancy.
Vote for Democrats! Pressure the the Supreme Court! Pass laws legalizing abortion! Trust women and their doctors!
There was a brief interchange about Reproductive Rights between Harris and Cheney at their town hall last week, where words were said that I am hoping turn out to be a big deal. I made a small blog post on it.

@Strandjunker only 36% of all Americans oppose #abortion in all or most cases, though, so that's 79% of 36% - around 29% - of all American men (and 21% of 36% - around 8% - of all American women).

So take heart: 71% of all American men and 92% of all American women support reproductive rights.
Now... why is the Presidential race so close... no idea...
