Gratitude Sunday = cat edition. 🐱

We’ve somehow ended up caring for ~10 cats between our 3 indoor kitties and a little TNR crew of indoor/outdoor neighbors. One of them is a senior, special-needs girl we adopted from Humane CNY. She’s FIV+ and not in the best health, but so, so loved.

Pets are family. Let’s be grateful for them all year, not just during the holidays. 💛

I finally have an update on Sprightly. He only ever ate his food while I was out of the room so I filmed him in secret to confirm that he was using his leg normally to move around. He was released 9 days after I caught him. I donated food to his feeder for him and other kitties to enjoy. #TNR #TNRcats
I caught a kitty and he needs extra healing time after his neuter surgery. The vet found an active infection in his leg. Unfortunately, they don’t do x-rays at the clinic so we don’t know if it’s a fracture or “just” a flesh wound. His name is Sprightly and he’ll be staying for a week. We’ll see how well he’s healed then. #TNR #TNRcats
The clinic I took her to found no microchip. Because she was pregnant, shedding noticeable flea dirt, and was starving, it’s likely she was dumped or left behind. Sadly, this isn’t uncommon in the area. Well, this girl is now spayed, vaxxed, flea treated, and chipped. When she rubbed her head against me, I knew she was friendly enough to take out of the trap for her recovery. Please meet Bramble! She’ll be looking for her forever home soon. #TNR #TNRcats
New development! My weekly TNR work ended with just a single cat, yet another specimen of the all-black kitty that is very common in the Massive Colony. What was not typical was the cat’s willingness to eat in front of me and the nonexistent hisses (only fearful, pleading meows), Is she a pet, I wondered. But no one recognized her and there was no indentation in her neck fur where a collar could’ve been. #TNR #TNRcats
After last week’s horrible experience, this week I’m so happy to get two cats fixed! The big white and grey tom is Hokusai; he reminded me of his namesake’s cat sketches. The little tabby was going in and out of an open vent, she looked like she was heat so I got her just in time. Her name is Twiggy. #TNR #TNRcats
Cliff ate a hearty helping of wild salmon cat food. I gave him the fancy stuff to keep him going in the bad weather that’s coming tonight. See you around, buddy! 😺 #TNR #TNRcats
This week, I had a combative, semi-threatening encounter at the massive colony. Out of concern for the cats, a stranger took one of my trap, casually lobbed a racist comment at me, and demanded proof that I wasn’t hurting cats. I’m fine, just a little shaken and kinda pissed I went home cat-less. My consolation, though, is catching this guy named Cliff later that night on my porch. #TNR #TNRcats
Here’s Russet and Coal Train’s return on video #TNR #tnrcats
This week, I caught Russet and Coal Train. I noticed Russet last week; his deep orange coloring is hard to miss. Coal Train is yet another all-black cat with that long-nose face common in this colony. Both cats got neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, and microchipped. And now they’ve been returned to their community.
Russet and Coal Train are from the same colony as the previous eight or so cats; this is a massive colony estimated to have 100–200 cats. #TNR #tnrcats
