Still finding it hard to make #mastodon a regular stop in my social media interactions. I'll keep trying to find the utility; I sense it's improving a bit. Here's my #sustainwhat discussion of the fine PBS series A Brief History of the Future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSny9YmpU9E&list=PLnf4Z6Yq17hQhYNSIgIiBH6UdnNmfRE9v&index=9&t=5s
Here's a sobering highlight from my #sustainwhat chat on the booming krill fishery in #Antarctic seas now dense with whales. In 2021, several whales died in nets set for vast blooms of these tiny crustaceans bound for omega-3 oils and salmon farms.

What looks like artillery fire around these giant krill fishing vessels in Antarctic waters is actually a flurry of spouts from a giant assemblage of fin whales feeding on the same bounty. Ungoverned krill fishing poses a threat to this resurgent species. Discussed at the tail end of this #SustainWhat chat: https://revkin.substack.com/i/139348604/an-antarctic-krill-competition
How Technology and Ingenuity Enabled a Giant Squid Quest

My latest Sustain What conversation is a bit off the typical themes I’ve focused on since the early days of the pandemic. Our topic was innovations and lessons surrounding a giant-squid hunt. Watch and you’ll meet Nathan Robinson, a marine biologist and science communicator I got to know at a

The next time you hear climate campaigners press for official declarations of a #ClimateEmergency, pause and listen to longtime climate researcher (and past IPCC author) Mike Hulme here on a big downside - at least if you value democracy. I've been reporting on the seriousness of human-caused global warming since 1988 but have repeatedly warned that climate isn't driving every risk, and can dangerously distract from other sources of societal risk. Mosquito-borne dengue fever is a prime case in point. Here's a key moment in today's #sustainwhat chat with the great Duane Gubler (50 years of dengue research, 2001 IPCC lead author..)
