04 A case was filed under Article 19 of the Peaceful Assembly Law against nine students. The article 19 outlaws unauthorized assemblies and carries a maximum three-month prison sentence. Five students got detained the next morning of the protest.

UN rights experts ‘gravely’ concerned at spike in civilian casualties in north-west Myanmar following internet shutdown

Independent UN human rights experts on Tuesday voiced grave concern over the killing and displacement of civilians in north-west Myanmar during the intensifying conflict between the military and an armed group, the Arakan Army, amid an information blackout in some parts of Rakhine and Chin states. 

"'We are students and citizens pointing out the wrongdoings of government,'" Kyaw Lynn, one of the students who took part, told Reuters by phone. "'They violated our citizens' rights.'"
