And now for something completely different.

How much interest in or attachment to -- if any -- do you have to the Californian past?

A lot of Texans are fascinated by Texan history, even if a common 'Remember the Alamo!" understanding of Texan history passes over ugly truths about slavery, segregation, relations with Mexico and Hispanic Americans, ethnic cleansing of Indians, racial violence, environmental horrors...

In this fascination with state history, Texas resembles other southern states. Yet the distinctive history of the Texas Revolution and Republic lends that past a special interest.

California has a very distinctive past, and those interested in US history will often take an interest in the history of California in a way they do not with, for example , Pennsylvania.

But what about Californians who are not specialists in Californian or US history? How interested in the Californian past are you/they?
