@jan Not journalling, but I've had a daily poetry-writing practice several times for periods ranging from a month to 100 days (and have recently signed up for the #StaffordChallenge of a poem a day in 2026). Things that have helped me: committing to write daily - and not going to bed til I've written for at least 10 minutes that day (because 10 minutes is so small, it's hard to justify *not* fitting it in before bed, even if it's at the very end of the day!) But/and...

@Wen Ah but who knows where a year might lead! These are terrific - prompted me to look out to some info on William Stafford's daily writing that John Glenday shared with students a few years back. (It was when I was trying to find more info on this online that I discovered the #StaffordChallenge.)

Each day Stafford would write in his notebook, including:
1. The date. "Once I write the date on a piece of paper," William Stafford said, "I know I'm okay. I have made it to my writing."

Ooh, just heard that the #StaffordChallenge are now taking sign-ups for next year. Inspired by William Stafford, it's 'a commitment to writing a poem every day for a year, starting January 17, 2026'. Support includes monthly guest-poet zoom events, and 'bi-weekly inspirational emails'. Free of charge (but donations welcome).

I'm in! Will post here at least occasionally with this hashtag in 2026, and would love to hear from others taking part.
