#OTD in 1983 #Atlanta Journal Constitution newspaper did story on closure of defunct local #SportsArena that had hosted Elvis Presley, Haystack Calhoun, Kenny Rogers, and The Allman Bros. The old Atlanta Sports Arena whose attendees had in better days seen Elvis & Ali, The Dead & Brenda Lee was mentioned in the newspaper as being for sale. Asking price was $250k for 3.5 acres it sat on plus the dilapidated 18,000 sq ft building that held 3500 rabid wrestling fans or dirty hippies alike. It had already been on the market for over 2 years with no takers in the Reagan era recession. Even though the #newspaper ran an article on the building's storied history, apparently no one came to its rescue. I checked later and the location was just an empty lot with a cracked concrete pad, but the faded memories of Captain Beefheart , Roller Derby and Dottie West live on for those in the know passing by along Memorial Drive in SE #ATL.
